Suborder Auchenorrhyncha

This is a diverse group of bugs including the Cicada and other lesser known groups. This Suborder is characterized by the the beak, referred to as a “rostrum”, that rises from under the back of the head. There are about 4,000 know species of Cicadas and are best known for the loud, high pitched buzzing sounds produced by the males for mating purposes.
