Family Syrphidae
This family of flies can be characterized with their often black and yellow coloring, which causes them to often be confused with Bees, or Wasps. However this family of over 5,000 species have very different flight patterns comparatively as they will dart quickly and then hover in one spot. These flies are considered important pollinators though their larvae can feed on plant matter or in aquatic environments. Some species do feed on other insects, often Aphids and other pest insects, and some feed in the nest of other social insect species.
